Calum Barran knows his life is meaningless. Taken in at a young age after his parents were killed in a savage war, the bereft farrier knows his love for the flame-haired heiress of the MacInnes Clan can never be. For if they were to act on their feelings, they would condemn themselves and ignite a terrible conflict.

Enraged by a law that forbids her from being true to her desires, Elise risks everything and spurns her betrothal. And while Calum rejoices at having the gorgeous noble in his arms, he fears their happiness will only hasten their demise.

Can this star-crossed couple escape the tyranny of custom and forge a loving future?

Prologue

It was a time filled with great beauty and horrible pain. A time when you could look to the South and see rolling green hills, but then look to the North and see nothing but dead grass and red-stained earth. I have no memories of this time, for I was not born yet. My memories come from my father and his tales. The tale of him and his two younger brothers as they sought out their seed in Scotland. It is a tale that has been told to me many times over in my nineteen years of life. Each time the story reaches my ears, it fascinates me. To hear and picture what my own family has done, all in the hope of a better life, the 12-mile voyage in three boats from Ireland to the Mull of Kintyre in Scotland.

I’ve always been passionate about storytelling and impressed by the influence it has on people. Really love engaging with the projects I work on, diving headfirst into the research, investigation, and production of stories that are worth writing about. I am a curious and proactive Author, interested in preserving my Celtic heritage.
